Considered the historical heart of the island, the monastery church is a Roman structure; some details of the church are related to Palma il Giovane and Palma il Vecchio. The courtyard and the bell tower was built on the 15thcentury in Baroque style. The convent known from 1101, because it conserved the relics of San Nicolo’, bishop of Myra and patron of all seamen.

Every year in the lagoon in front of the monastery there is a celebration of marriage between Venice and the sea. An old story and tradition that is observe up to now.
